HBO Seeks Asian Pacific American Visionaries

6 Sep 2017 - By TW Staff

HBO is offering emerging filmmakers of Asian and/or Pacific Islander descent an extraordinary opportunity to showcase their work. The 2018 Asian Pacific American Visionaries short film competition is looking for cinematic storytellers who offer unique perspectives of the Asian Pacific American experience. If this sounds like you (or someone you know), read on!

This year’s contest theme is “home.” Short films (8 to 12 minutes long) should explore the meaning of “home” in a creative and innovative way. A panel of HBO executives, industry leaders and fellow APA filmmakers will review submissions and select three winning films, which will premiere at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival next year.

Winners will also receive cash prizes, plus the option to license their film to debut exclusively on HBO and/or its platforms during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May 2018.

Get all the details by visiting, but act quickly: the deadline to submit your short film is 11:59 p.m. PT November 1 (note that employees of Time Warner divisions are not eligible).
